Best Kiss – by Celeste O. Norfleet

Trey glanced past her seeing that Mamma Lou had turned to leave. He quickly grabbed Kenya, switched their positions and kissed her, pinning her against the doorframe. To both their surprise she readily melted into his arms. It lasted only seconds, but Kenya was certain he had rattled her brains.

His strong arms encircled her, pulling her close. Her mouth open to him and he entered, penetrating deep. His tongue thrust repeatedly, sending tingles along every nerve ending in her body. She felt, and readily accepted his weight pressed against her. He was hard. She pushed away from the frame desperate to get closer to him, to feel more of him. The kiss deepened as they entered a solitary world, were only the two of them existed. It was easy, natural, as if they’d been kissing forever. ~ excerpt from Love Me Now (November 2009)

There are regular kisses, wet kisses, sloppy kisses, tender kisses and even punishing kisses. But nothing compares to the mind-blowing, knee-weakening, smack your momma “best kiss.” A best kiss is a work of art and it only happens when the chemistry is just right. It’s never done on purpose. It’s purely unintentional. But when it happens, it’s unmistakable. It’s sensuous, passionate, and you know without a doubt that what you’re experiencing will stay with you forever.

As a romance writer I like to think that I know a thing or two about the best kiss. After all, the characters I write about in my books are always experiencing it. It’s more than the placement of hands or the tilt of the head. It’s about chemistry, passion and the all important afterglow.

The chemistry of the best kiss happens well before two people touch lips. It’s the intense feeling that draws them together in the first place. It’s a connection. After that, lips touch with longing, rapture, arousal and desire erupts as your senses shatter. That’s passion. Then there’s the afterglow. You look into each other’s eyes knowing that you’d just experienced the best kiss ever. The feeling is instant.

By far my best kiss took place on June 12th 1986. I was on the dance floor with a man I’d just met. We connected. We were dancing to Earth Wind & Fire’s Reasons. He kissed me. That one kiss changed the direction of my life. The next year we got married. That was 22 years ago and that best kiss is exactly the same since that day.

Here’s my movie best kiss list, what’s yours?

Great post. I can’t wait until the new book comes out!

I have to go with Seven Pounds for the best kiss when Will and Rosario are in the side garage.

  10. Lashonda Silver says:

I am with Love Jones. My husband runs wen I pull this DVD out, which is often.

“Let me tell you somethin’. This here, right now, at this very moment, is all that matters to me. I love you. That’s urgent like a mother*&^%$. ”

He had me from the beginning of the movie…but that end kiss, under the bridge, rain falling in the background, when he said those words…

  11. Shemeka Atkins says:

The Movie I choose is The Wood with Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan. Omar’s first love was Sanaa. I love how in The Wood you saw their growing stages, from friends to something more. Not matter how much he dated he still compared other girls to “Alesha”. When they danced at the end of the wedding ceremony and he kissed her it was beautiful. I am a member of LLL&B

  12. Beverly says:

i am going to have to go with Love and Basketball.
But I view the other movies since they also sound interesting. :)

I am so looking forward to Love Me Now. And I see I will end to keep my fan and glass of ice water handy.

    I am a member of LLL&B

    Take care
    Beverly

  13. Adrianne says:

My choice wasn’t a movie but a soap opera. Days of our lives. When Bo drove his motorcycle to Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For a Hero and showed up at the last minute to stop Hope’s wedding. When she ran to him and the kiss they shared….*sigh*
    Then after that-Love Jones.

  14. Kareemah says:

My favorite movie kiss is Love and Basketball. My favorite movie.

  15. Estella says:

My favorite is the kiss at the end of Pretty Woman.

  16. Louise says:

    Hi Celeste,
That was so nice your best kiss:

Here’s my movie best kiss list, what’s yours?
I have so many that when I saw the kiss all I could do was just DAMN………..

    This Christmas
    An Officer and Gentlemen
    Pretty Woman
    Dirty Dancing
    The Best Man
    The Wood
    Love and Basketball
    Love Jones

    I am part of the LL&B GROUP………………

    Smooches
    Louise

  17. Fonda says:

The best kiss for me was a TV show, A Different World, when Dawayne stop Whitney from marrying the congressmen/senator, I hope you all remember the whole episode. It was soo touching.

  18. Eddie’s kiss in The Five Heartbeats is my favorite! I’ve played that scene over and over.

  19. Celeste, that kiss scene from your upcoming book is AWESOME! Congratulations on its release in November! I have not read any of your books to date. Please don’t feel bad, because my preference is contemporary and classic literature. But, I do enjoy romances when I have a chance to read them. I plan to check out “Love Me Now” in November!

You ask, “Here’s my movie best kiss list, what’s yours?”

I thought kisses and love scenes between Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker in “Something New” were great and were a combination of — regular, wet, sloppy, tender, and “I cannot get enough of you” — kisses to suit anyone’s preference in passion!

  20. Claritta says:

“Let me tell you somethin’. This here, right now, at this very moment, is all that matters to me. I love you. That’s urgent like a mother*&^%$. ”

    Lashonda,

I love that line. By far one of the best. If not THE BEST since everyone agrees.

Besides Love Jones and The Notebook (another rain scene), one that always gets me and it is one of my favorite movies as well – Never Been Kissed. I can’t quote it direct but “sorry I’m late seems like it took me forever. I know what you mean”. I cry at the end of the movie.

    Member of LL&B GROUP. :-)

  21. Shelia says:

Love Jones is the movie I would choose as the best kiss too. I enjoyed your blog post.

  22. Fonda says:

What I do not like is a wet and sloppy kiss……..Nasty

  23. Erica G says:

One of my favorite kiss scenes came from an independent BET movie, “masquerade”. The final scene at the end when Cress Williams and Joi (cant think of her name right at this minute) kiss was breath-taking. Now that I think about it their first kiss was awesome as well. He’s going out the door, stops, turns around and plants one on her. Loved it and love Cress Williams.

  24. Cathy A. says:

The Notebook is high on my list and also the kiss at the end of Never Been KIssed.
